Meet our new president, Kaitlin Benson.
Kaitlin Benson is a 6th year Mathematics teacher in Oakland County. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2015. While there, she was a member of the Urban Educator Cohort Program and an Urban Immersion Fellow. She was also an active member of the Urban Educator Cohort E-Board. Currently, Kaitlin is Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 teacher at Bloomfield Hills High School. Outside of teaching, she is a member of the Oakland County Math Leadership Team, the Oakland County Math Equity Leadership Network, and the Tri-County Culturally Responsive Mathematics Institute. She also received her Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum program at Michigan State University with a concentration in Mathematics & Science Education and Socio-Cultural Perspectives in Teaching and Learning.
As the acting president of DACTM, Kaitlin’s hopes that DACTM can remain focused on bringing together the Metro-Detroit Area math educators. To her, the core of DACTM is its members and the students they teach. Each one intertwines to make the foundation of this organization. Through collaboration with other organization and cooperation within DACTM, Kaitlin‘s goal is to continue the tradition of offering a safe space for mathematics teachers to socialize, learn, and grow other.
