Greetings DACTM Members,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you as President to the Fall/Winter 2017 edition of the FACTORIAL! When sitting down to write this letter, I had to stop to reflect on DACTM and its identity with the current push and pull of the role of educator. Why does DACTM exist? And more specifically, how is DACTM different from other organizations? To get to the start of answer, I had to think of the core of our organization---our members.
We believe that math educators like you not only love teaching and seeing that "aha" moment in developing minds, but also we love sharing the language, beauty, and complexity of math. And DACTM is here today because of your love for math. DACTM exists for the professional learning of our members-to help educators find new ways to impart this learning and love of math on others.
As president, I will continue to push our mission with the development of DACTM Pop-Up Math Talks, face-to-face professional learning sessions, collaborations with other organizations, and with our traditional Pi Day Party to create this strong professional connection among DACTM's membership.
It has been wonderful getting to meet so many members at the three professional learning events we have had so far and I hope in the coming months that we will be able to meet face to face if we haven't already. Welcome to the 66th volume of The FACTORIAL!. This publication has contributed to the professional development of mathematics educators for decades. We are proud to continue the tradition.
